Summer arts programs

The College of Creative Arts hosts a variety of opportunities for all ages to get creative during the summer. 

Summer Acting Academy

June 19-25, 2022

Summer Acting Academy is a one-week professional theatre training program for young actors who wish to explore and develop their skills in all areas of performance.

Summer Brass Academy

June 13-17, 2022

This week-long brass camp is designed to help young brass musicians develop technical ability, interpretive skills, and increase their understanding of a variety of genres and musical styles through masterclasses, private practice time, and individual lessons.

Summer Composition Academy

June 20-24, 2022

Want to learn how to write music? Want to develop your current composition skills? The Summer Composition Academy will give you the opportunity to learn from WVU composition faculty.

Summer Dance Academy

Teen Academy: July 10-16, 2022

This weeklong, in residence dance program is geared toward dancers ages 12-18 interested in furthering their dance training.

Young Academy: July 11- 15, 2022

This weeklong dance program is geared towards children ages 5-11 years old, with little to no previous dance experience.

Visual Arts Summer Academies 

Day Camp: July 8 – 12, 2024

Students from grades K – 6 will participate in studio art workshops from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Canady Creative Arts Center. Lunch and all art supplies will be provided. 

Residential Camp: June 23 – 28, 2024

The Academy introduces participants in grades 7–12 to visual arts programs at the university level and helps them expand their artistic skills. This program is designed to encourage students to think about career pathways in art and design and to experience campus life at WVU.

World Music Pedagogy Course

June 20-23, 2022

Join music educators, ethnomusicologists and guest artists as we gather in person for West Virginia University’s sixth annual World Music Pedagogy Course: Celebrating Global and Local Music Culture.

Community programs

The School of Music and School of Theatre & Dance provide learning opportunities for the community each semester.

Community Music Program

The WVU Community Music Program is open to everyone, including beginners, amateurs, and performers of all ages and levels, who wish to enhance their daily lives with arts, learn how to play an instrument, further hone their skills, explore new creative territories, or perform with others who share the same passion.

WVU Youth Theatre Academy

The WVU Youth Theatre Academy provides children aged 6-17 with the opportunity to perform in high quality theatrical productions while developing  professional skills in all areas of theatre production and performance.

Creativity Academy

The School of Music offers a series of free weekday matinee performances, open to all grades and ages from public schools, private schools and homeschool groups.
