Commencement for the College of Creative Arts

This ceremony is for those students completing their University degree requirements in May 2020.

Academic Regalia

Academic Regalia is required to participate in the College of Creative Arts Commencement. Regalia may be purchased at the Downtown WVU Bookstore. Order regalia online at

  • Undergraduate cap, gown & tassel $55.45
  • Master cap, gown, hood & tassel $100
  • Doctoral cap, gown, hood & tassel $141.91

Organization of the Academic Procession

Candidates should arrive promptly at 2:30 p.m. and report to the Gladys G. Davis Theatre, 1st floor, and you will be given instructions for the organization of the academic procession and ceremony.

Conferring of Degrees

Candidates will walk across the stage to be greeted and congratulated.  Please follow the direction of your School Student Marshal when proceeding to the stage.  

Please note that diplomas will not be given out during the commencement ceremony, but graduates will receive a diploma cover as they cross the stage for photograph purposes.


When the ceremony has concluded, the graduates will rise and exit simultaneously with the Platform Party and Faculty. When the stage is empty, the guests may exit to the Douglas O. Blaney Lobby of the Creative Arts Center for a reception.

Families and Guests

Doors to the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre will be open at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are not required for admission and seating is open, except where reserved for degree candidates. Guests should be in their seats before the academic procession begins sharply at 3:30 p.m. Parking is available in front of the Creative Arts Center for families and guests of the degree candidates.


Photographs will be taken by Grad Images. Families of graduates are welcome to take photographs during the ceremony.
