Music Technology Minor

The Minor in Music Technology is intended for students with a background or interest in recording, creating, or producing audio for music or visual media. There are two tracks available to suit composers, producers/recording engineers, or both. This minor gives students the opportunity to study and apply the theories and techniques required for successful audio production using a digital audio workstation as well as composition, sound design, audio in multimedia applications, and programming using various software and hardware tools.



CURRICULUM-17-18 HOURS

Track I: Electronic Music Composition-Required Courses –  8 hours
  • MUSC 236 – Intro to Recording Technology- 2 hours
  • MUSC 460A – Electronic Music Composition- 2 hours (may be repeated as elective)
  • MUSC 465 – Electronic Music: MIDI- 2 hours
  • MUSC 466 – Electronic Music: Digital Audio- 2 hours
Track II: Production/Recording Engineering-Required Courses- 9 hours
  • MUSC 236-Intro to Recording Technology- 2 hours
  • MUSC 336-Intro to Digital Audio Workstations- 3 hours
  • MUSC 437-Practicum in Recording Technology- 4 hours (may be repeated as elective)
Music Technology Electives (both Track I and II)- 6 hours from the following courses:
  • MUSC 336-Intro to Digital Audio Workstations- 3 hours
  • MUSC 337-Digital Audio Workstations Alternatives- 3 hours
  • MUSC 338-Sound for Video Games and Visual Media- 2 hours
  • MUSC 436-Advanced Digital Audio Workstations Techniques- 3 hours
  • MUSC 437-Practicum in Recording Technology- 4 hours
  • MUSC 460A-Electronic Music Composition- 2 hours
  • MUSC 465-Electronic Music: MIDI- 2 hours
  • MUSC 466-Electronic Music: Digital Audio- 2 hours
